And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
And you will become very sick with a terrible disease in your intestines, until your intestines come out because of this sickness getting worse day by day.
God is declaring that someone will suffer from a severe, progressively worsening intestinal disease as judgment.
📚 Historical Context
In the historical context of 2 Chronicles, King Jehoram of Judah ruled after his father Jehoshaphat and led the nation into idolatry and wickedness, including murdering his own brothers to secure his throne. As a judgment for his unfaithfulness to God, the prophet Elijah sent a letter prophesying this severe illness as a direct consequence of his sins. This event reflects the biblical pattern of divine accountability for leaders in ancient Israel during the divided kingdom period.
